COMMUNICATIONS INTERN

Who We Are:
Vijana Africa is a nonprofit organization committed to promoting peace, conflict transformation, and economic empowerment through advocacy, education, and civic engagement. In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), our efforts are primarily focused on addressing the impact of conflict minerals and their repercussions on peace, security, education, health, and the economy. We empower young people, particularly in regions like the DRC and Malawi, helping them realize their potential and build peaceful, sustainable futures.

 

Who We Are Looking For:
Vijana Africa is currently accepting applications for a Communications Intern. This role is ideal for a creative and motivated individual passionate about storytelling, social media, and visual communication. As a Communications Intern, you will have the opportunity to engage with a vibrant community and contribute to impactful initiatives.
You will work closely with our team to learn the fundamentals of nonprofit communications, including social media management, website maintenance, and graphic design. If you are a self-starter who can work independently and collaboratively, and if you are eager to apply your skills to promote peace and empower youth, this internship is for you.


As a Communications Intern, your responsibilities may include:

  • Social Media Management: Develop and manage content for Vijana Africa’s social media accounts, ensuring it aligns with our mission and engages our audience.

  • Website Maintenance: Assist in updating and maintaining the Vijana Africa website to ensure that content is fresh and relevant.

  • Graphic Design: Create visually compelling graphics for social media, newsletters, and other digital platforms.

  • Content Creation: Support the development of press releases, blog posts, and other written content to communicate our work and impact.

  • Analytics: Monitor and report on the effectiveness of communication campaigns, providing insights and suggestions for improvement.

 

Qualifications:
Required:

  • Experience with social media platforms and content creation tools.

  • Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

  • Passion for youth empowerment and social justice.

 

Details:
This internship is remote and unpaid, offering a flexible schedule with an expected commitment of a minimum of 20 hours per week over 4-6 months. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the Horizon Conference in November, providing networking and professional growth opportunities.

GRANT WRIGHTING & FUNDRAISING INTERN

Who We Are Looking For:

Vijana Africa is currently seeking a motivated Grant Writing and Fundraising Intern. This position is ideal for a college student or recent graduate who is passionate about nonprofit development, donor relations, and business development. The intern will gain hands-on experience in nonprofit fundraising and grant writing while contributing to our mission.

You will work with our team to develop fundraising strategies, write grant proposals, and manage donor relations. If you are a detail-oriented individual with strong writing skills, and if you are eager to learn and grow in the nonprofit sector, this internship is an excellent opportunity.

 

As a Grant Writing and Fundraising Intern, your responsibilities may include:

  • Grant Writing: Research and draft grant proposals to secure funding for Vijana Africa’s programs.

  • Fundraising Strategy: Assist in developing and implementing fundraising strategies and campaigns.

  • Donor Relations: Help manage donor databases, ensuring that relationships are nurtured and tracked effectively.

  • Business Development: Collaborate with the business development team to identify new funding opportunities and strategic partnerships.

 

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Strong writing and research skills, particularly in grant writing.

  • Understanding of donor relations and nonprofit fundraising strategies.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
