OUR WORK IN MALAWI

At Vijana Africa, we are committed to empowering communities in Malawi through three key initiatives: economic empowerment, digital literacy, and leadership development. Our projects aim to create sustainable livelihoods, enhance skills, and foster leadership among diverse groups.

Empowering Youth with Essential Digital Skills

Vijana Africa provides youth with foundational computer skills to prepare them for the professional sphere. Over six months, young men and women aged 13 to 20 learn to use Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel. These essential skills equip them with the tools needed for various professional environments, enhancing their future employment prospects.

Since December 2017, Vijana Africa has also trained 225 young individuals in videography. Participants, aged 13 to 20, come from diverse backgrounds and learn to shoot and edit videos over a six-month period. This training culminates in the production of a documentary, showcasing their newfound skills and creativity.

Through these programs, Vijana Africa is committed to bridging the digital divide and empowering youth with the skills needed to succeed in a digital world. These initiatives not only enhance technical abilities but also build confidence and open up new opportunities for young people in their communities.

Our pig farming project empowers 240 women, including widows and those with disabilities, by providing them employment and essential skills in animal husbandry, business management, and financial literacy. This initiative ensures broad community impact by selecting beneficiaries from both camps and surrounding villages.

Additionally, we have enabled 181 widows, single mothers, and women with disabilities to achieve self-reliance through rabbit farming. This project helps them generate income and enhances their gardening efforts with rabbit manure, improving soil fertility and crop yields.

Through these projects, Vijana Africa fosters economic empowerment, building confidence and resilience among participants, and creating role models within communities.

LEADERSHIP & CIVIC ENGAGEMENT

Empowering Tomorrow's Leaders Today

Young people are the driving force behind their communities, embodying the future and guiding their communities toward progress. At Vijana Africa, we believe that supporting and nurturing these young leaders is crucial to overcoming the challenges their communities face. Our mission is to identify, mentor, and empower young leaders, enabling them to create solutions, engage in civic leadership, and serve as role models.

Since May 2020, Vijana Africa has trained and mentored over 100 peer educators, both boys and girls aged 13 to 22. These young leaders have been instrumental in raising awareness about critical issues such as sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), peaceful coexistence, and the impacts of COVID-19.

We advocate for refugees' rights and the implementation of the Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework. Our work promotes peaceful coexistence between refugees and Malawian communities through cultural activities and active advocacy to local and national authorities. Join us in our journey to empower the next generation of leaders and create a brighter, more sustainable future for all.
