Youth Leadership & Economic Opportunity

Leadership and livelihoods, together.

Youth leadership and economic opportunity sit at the heart of our mission. Msingi wa Maendeleo, our organizational capacity-strengthening program for youth-led civil society groups, is this area’s current flagship activity, and we’re building toward broader entrepreneurship and livelihoods work as it develops.

Building toward broader economic opportunity

This page describes what we’re actively doing today — Msingi wa Maendeleo’s capacity-strengthening work — alongside the direction we’re building toward for entrepreneurship, trade, and livelihoods. Our past work in Malawi informs that direction; we reference it here as history, with its own dates and status, rather than as a program we run today.

Part of Economic Empowerment and Community Resilience

Our mission groups youth and women’s livelihoods and entrepreneurship, practical skills and trades, market linkages, savings and financial capability, and local economic alternatives in mining-affected communities under one pillar: Economic Empowerment and Community Resilience. Msingi wa Maendeleo’s organizational capacity-strengthening work is this pillar’s current activity, and cooperative and circular-economy approaches are part of the direction we’re building toward next.

Economic opportunity, taking shape

We’re building our entrepreneurship and livelihoods work step by step, alongside Msingi wa Maendeleo’s capacity-strengthening activity.

A historical note on Malawi

Our past work in Malawi is part of our history, not a program we run today.

Figures above reflect our own program reporting, and each one notes what it measures.
